Over 30 years and still rising
Millie's Bakery is truly an Adelaide Hills institution. This much-loved South Australian business was established by Margaret Gilbert in 1980, in a converted residence in historic Gawler Street, in Mount Barker – a rural town nestled in the colourful folds of the Adelaide Hills.
The name "Millie's" was chosen in memory of a passionate, down-to-earth country cook who lived in the house for many years. Millie still keeps a watchful eye over the bakers in the bakehouse to this day. But don't worry, she's definitely a friendly ghost!
Millie's delicious range of handmade breads, biscuits, pastries and cakes has grown from just 18 products to well over 400 today, including all your favourites and a number of increasingly health-driven specialty products (selenium enriched, vegan, gluten-free, no artificial cream or preservatives and sugar-free).
We offer our original country flair and flavour with the enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee at our four modern café outlets – three in the Adelaide Hills, at Stirling, Nairne and Mount Barker, and one in the charming Adelaide eastern suburbs village of Dulwich.
Our entire range is still baked fresh each morning in Mount Barker and delivered to all outlets less than an hour later. Many of our products do not use any artificial preservatives or flavours. With almost every ingredient sourced locally, no significant carbon-emitting freight is required at any stage of production.
As we hope you can tell, it's a history we're very proud of. And we're even prouder to continue it.
